Mascot
In an effort to spark off the spirit of innovation among NYJCians, InC.ny had launched a mascot design competition, between 5th and 6th week of Term 1 in 2009, with elements of Felix the Cat as its theme. Students had the chance to demonstrate the essence of innovation to create a mascot for the committee that would be used as an endorsement for all InC.ny events.
We are warmed by our students’ enthusiasm, and the entries are judged according to the alignment with InC.ny’s image: creativity, originality and attractiveness. Eventually, Tay Hwee Ying of 0905 emerged as the overall winner of the competition. Here's Tay Hwee Ying (0905) with her winning entry and her description on her design:
"The mascot is a typical student drawn in the form of a cat, with features of the cat's tail and ears. Cats are curious animals. We should adopt this characteristic which will drive us to acquire more knowledge and be innovative in all our endeavors just like the light bulb which signifies innovative ideas. We may be ordinary but we can create great innovation. The student wears the PE attire which is worn by both boys and girls, showing that anyone can be innovative on equal footing. The shadow with NY's motto depicts the process of building our ideas that enables us to strive for our very best in whatever we do."
