Aureus Experentia XIV
After four years, Nanyang Junior College Symphonic Band (NYJCSB) is back again in Victoria Concert Hall on 28th May 2010 for Aureus Experentia XIV – the biennial concert.
The Band started off the first half of the concert with Sea Songs, a lively march which created the atmosphere for the night’s wonderful performance. After which, the Band played three pieces, including Sinfonia Festiva and Angels in the Architecture which showcased the technical skills of the Band members.
The Band continued the second half of the concert with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland - an imaginative piece of an interpretation of Alice’s adventures with narration and singing. With animating props and comedic acting, the play brought much laughter to the audience. After watching how Alice got chased by the Queen’s guards, the Percussion Ensemble (featuring an Alto Saxophone and a Double Bass) brought the audience onto the festive beaches of Rio de Janeiro. After two more pieces, namely, Marching Willing and Able and My Neighbour Totoro, the concert was coming to end.
For the finale, the Band performed Japanese Graffiti XIV, the latest installment of the Japanese Graffiti series. In order to bring the best to our wonderful audience and always supporting teachers, the Band members practiced gimmicks to go along with this piece. The mixture of the pop-style music and enthusiastic actions ended the concert on the high note.
Aureus Experentia XIV had given the Band members a fantastic experience. Through this concert, there is no doubt the members have improved in terms of techniques skills and well as musicality. Most importantly, throughout the months of practice, the members build a good rapport amongst each other which help the band to present such a successful concert that night.
The Band sincerely thank the school, the teachers as well as our conductor for their utmost support. We too thank our amazing audience for giving us thunderous applause for our performance and also for giving us this opportunity to perform to a fully seated Victoria Concert Hall. Please continue in giving us support in our music making and NYJCSB hopes to see you during Aureus Experentia XV.
