4th Annual Band Dinner 2009

“Good evening Mr. Kwek, Miss Ng, teachers and fellow band members. Welcome to Nanyang Junior College Symphonic Band’s 4th Band Dinner. ”

After much discussion, considering budget restraints, the 4th Annual Band Dinner was held on 3rd December 2010, at Quality Hotel (same venue in 2008). That night, we were honored with the presence of many teachers who have helped us throughout the year. In the 4 hour dinner, dedications were made, games were played, speeches were given and so were the goodbyes to the seniors.

The theme for this year’s dinner is SHINE, and so the banner was made out of CDs painstakingly stuck onto a black cloth. Some turned up in glittery clothing while some came in outfits that they thought made them shine.

The dinner started off with food (of course), and 2nd annual dedication videos in 3 parts were played throughout the dinner. They can be found here. The Band members took part enthusiastically in the making of the section videos to show their appreciation for their seniors. To show our (Exco’s) gratitude for the participation in the making of the videos, we included a Best Video Award, voted by the teachers present. With a vote’s difference, the Saxophone Section won a huge box of Redondo (sponsored by the Exco).

In the midst of the dinner, three games were played. They were “The _______ (could be longest, shortest) Game”, “Band’s Version of Jeopardy” and “Guess the Band Piece”.  All three games were enjoyed by everyone present and it was played by the table. The table with the most number of wins out of the three games wins. And this year, the winning table was the Flute Section.

Then we had the most awaited segment of the night, which is the Catwalk. Each table was asked to send out two representatives to take part in the catwalk for best dressed. After the walk was demonstrated by the emcees, participants were asked to do the same. At the end, it turned out that we had a tie between the Saxophone/Clarinet Table and the Flute Table. Thus, we had a Talent Showcase. Jackson and Kiesha sang a song by Taylor Swift while the duo from flute section danced to Sorry Sorry. Interestingly, the two male participants sent out by the flute section won the Best Dressed Award.
After the speeches from Elijah (J2 representative), Sherilyn (J1 representative), we had the plaque presentation.

Finally, we had the lucky draw with prizes like MP3 players and vouchers were generously sponsored by the teachers.  Winners for that night were Gerard, Nazreen and Lin Hao.
Although some J2 members couldn’t make the dinner due to personal reasons, we wish you would feel our gratitude when you watch the dedication videos!
We would too like to thank all teachers (Mr. Kwek, Miss Ng, Mr. Neo, Miss Tan, Mr. Tan, Mr. Chia, Mr. Tay, Miss Toh) present and also Mrs Tan and Miss Peh who could not attend the dinner.
