Band Visit by Maclean's College Orchestra Credits to NYConneXions for the article published on their website
During the common lunch break on 17th July, the Macleans College Orchestra, hailing from Auckland, travelled all the way to Nanyang Junior College to give an amazingly rousing performance. Their music certainly drew in the attention of the crowds, all eager to have a look and enjoy the show. With the fire drill that occurred just before the performance, they were all in for a pleasant surprise, as the Orchestra did not disappoint expections. The multi-racial orchestra was made up of an estimated forty students, all of whom were of the same age group as our fellow NYJCians. They played about eight well-known orchestra pieces, including "Carmen Suite", "Marriage of Figaro", "Radetzsky March" which got the crowd involved in clapping to the rhythm and "Winter from the Four Seasons" which featured a Violin Solo.
Their presentation certainly was professional, and evoked lots of expressiveness in their music. Despite the heat that they were not used to in their home country, they carried on with the performance, and certainly did not fail to impress. As part of their performance, Mr Nigel Weeks, Conductor of Macleans College Orchestra, requested a guest conductor from the audience. NYJC band members "volunteered" our student conductor, Nazreen up for the task.
Overall, the performance for the whole hour was indeed entertaining!
