The band participated in exchange programmes with 3 schools with renowned standards of music education, namely Yuhigaoka High School, Meijo Gakuin High School and Osaka College of Music. Although language was a barrier and proper conversation was difficult, students of both countries were still able to communicate and exchange ideas and techniques through the universal language of music.

Furthermore, many were able to pick up a few "tricks of the trade" during an intensive band clinic by Professor Kitano of the Osaka College of Music, bringing their playing skills and understanding of their music to a higher level.

In addition to side trips to places of historical and cultural significance, such as the deer park of Todaiji Temple in Nara, the cobbled streets of Kyoto, and of course, the exciting Universal Studios Japan, band members also had the opportunity to catch a concert by the famed Osaka Municipal Symphonic Band, whose 96th regular concert coincided with the trip.

The exchange programme was certainly an eye-opener for band members as they were able to witness firsthand the musicality, discipline and enthusiasm of the Japanese musicians, both students and professionals alike. The chance to imbibe the culture of Japan has also given them a greater understanding and appreciation of a different way of life.
