Bangkok Trip

On 16th December 2006, the NYJC Symphonic Band embarked on the Thailand (Bangkok ) band exchange programme. Traveling with 41 of us were our teachers, Mr Foo, Mr Gary Neo, Mr Kenneth Chee and Ms Ding, our conductor, Mr Brando Tan and two other experienced musicians, Mr De Souza and Mr Sukit who would facilitate our exchange programme for this trip.

The aim of this exchange programme was to prepare our band members for the SYF Central Judging of Concert Bands 2007 through the collaboration with the professional players in Thailand . Indeed, after the exchange and the master-classes we had with Wat Suthiwararam High School and Silpakorn University , our playing skills had improved and we had gained better musical knowledge. Despite the intensive practices, we had fun through the interactive games and meals with the Thai students. The Thai students and professors were extremely hospitable and we enjoyed their company very much.

Upon return from the trip, we had learnt more about ourselves and the band as a whole. The band members are more bonded and we know that together as one, we are able to scale greater heights. This trip was definitely a fruitful one!
