Dear NYJCians,
Before the year 2011 ends, let us take a look at the college-wide events that happened in the 2nd semester!

June started off with a brilliant performance by NY Symphonic Band in Limelight @ Esplanade. This was followed by various overseas trips such as Hong Kong for Economics, Taiwan for H1 Chinese, Switzerland Science trip, and England organised by English Department. School reopened with Mid-Year examinations, and celebration of National Day with fun-filled activities organised by 5th House Exco. Concurrently, CCA leaders had gone to Tanjung Piai, Johor, for their Leadership Training Camp, which was definitely unforgettable. On 12 August, a charity soccer match was held inviting our NY Alumni and Singapore Ex-Internationals Team, which was splendid.

We celebrated Teachers' Day with the concert organised by the 34th Student Council on 31 August, with the theme "Our Perfect Song" symbolising teachers and students coming together with different roles to complete the masterpiece. The photos taken are available for viewing at the "GALLERY" section. 12 October marks the end of J1 Promo Exmainations, and the post-exam activities started on the 14th with Queensland Core Test, workshop for CT Well-being reps, and Walk-for-Rice from our college to Lower Seletar which was indeed fulfilling and rewarding. J2 Graduation ceremony was held the day after, along with Relationship Module where activities were interesting and informative.

Meanwhile, the deadlines for PW submissions and H1 Chinese exam are drawing near, so let us continue to work hard!

It is currently the June holidays! As we are moving on to the 2nd semester soon, here is a summary of college-wide events that happened in the 1st semester!

The year 2011 was started off with JC Experience - "Take Charge, Choose Right" for 140 "O"-Level 2010 graduates from different secondary schools to experience JC life on 4th and 5th January, and our College Open House 2011 on 11th January. This was followed by the JC1 Orientation: Eblouissant - Begin Here, from 27th to 1st February, organised by the 33rd Student Council. The day after was the Chinese New Year celebration cum CCA Bazaar which was jointly organized by the Aesthetics Committee and the 33rd Student Council, presenting performances and introducing a variety of CCAs to the J1s. INNoFEST 2011 followed after from 28th to 4th March which was presented by InC.ny, with speakers from Awfully Chocolate, Sogurt and Made in Candy to share their inspiring stories of success, not forgetting experiential learning journeys and workshops. Sports Carnival 2011 which was organised by the PE Department and the 4th House Exco, was held on 5th March at Bedok Reservoir with fun activities such as "Capture the Flag", Relay and Dragon Boating. On 11th March, Nanyang Chinese Cultural Sciety presented a fantastic performance in LT4 for their annual drama production Bai Yun Gang.

During the Kindness Week @ NYJC presented by the Welfare Committee of the 33rd Student Council with the election of Kindness Ambassadors for each class and the volunteering of cleaning the seashells at Eblouissant, Amitié Carnival was held on 6th April promoting the theme "Friendship" this year, and raising funds for Lions Befrienders. It was a day of joy while raising funds with exciting stalls such as the haunted house, handicrafts, food, and the selling of helium balloons. On 13th May, the annual talent competition THE ONE 2011 was organised by the 33rd Student Council College Image and Bonding Committee, showcasing talents in our college. The 34th Student Council Investiture was held on 18th May in the hall witnessed by J1s, welcoming guest-of-honour Mr Clifton Tang, where the ceremony marks the handover from the 33rd to the 34th. On 20th and 21st May, Nanyang English Drama Club held an outstanding Drama Night 2011 performance "A Grimm Affair" portraying twisted fairytales in LT4. Nanyang Film Festival 2011 presented by Nanyang FilmArt a week later on 27th May in LT4 was a success.

With mid-year exams drawing near, let's continue to perservere and do well for our mid-year exams! Let's look forward to the 2nd semester with more exciting events coming along!
