FB Feedback & Response

Posted by Huang Yuming, at 9.10 p.m. | Filed under general

Dear NYJCians,
Regarding the first batch of feedbacks that has been sent to the school administrations, we have a response from the school administration. Detailed below is the feedback given and the response.

Dear Yuming,
My apologies for the late reply. I have consulted our Operations Manager and Principal on the issues raised and here are our responses:

1) Having the canteen stalls open for longer hours.
We have raised this proposal to our canteen vendors before. Their main concern has been their fear of not being able to sell their items late into the afternoon. It translates to higher cost for them as some of the stalls need to keep their gas mains running as to keep the food warm. In fact, we have the snacks stall to increase their operational hours from the previous 3pm to the current 4.30p.m. Students who wish to buy food after this time can still do so from the Good News Cafe or vending machines. As much as we would like the canteen to cater to the needs of our students, we need also to spare a thought for them as any additional cost would be borne by them.

2) There have been requests for more types of food in the canteen, specifically for more halal food.
We are aware of this problem and has brought it to the attention of the canteen operator. The boss informed us that he is currently sourcing for another Halal vendor and would probably discontinue the current one if they are unable to meet the needs of the school. Previously, we had a stall selling Indian Muslim food but the demand was too low to keep it afloat. Nevertheless, the school will continue to work with the canteen vendor to increase the variety.

3) Some students have pointed out that certain subjects are lacking recorded lectures that could benefit students.
This issue has been brought to the attention of HOD IT/MRL. Our recording facilities are currently only avaible in LT 4 as the one in LT 3 has been unstable. The college will be exploring on the feasibility of equipping all LTs with the recording facility. The school would need to evaluate on the usage level of this facilitiy so that we can justify the cost of installation.

4) Temperature in lt4
I had a word with our Operations Manager with regard to this concern. As the LT is huge and hence would take a longer time to cool down the premise, the college has to set a lower temp so that students going for their lessons (especially if it is the start of the day) would enjoy a cool environment. Problem is that the LT would become rather cold if you are coming in for the second or subsequent lessons as the aircon would have been turned on for sometime. Our OM advised against adjusting the thermostat too frequently as it tends to spoil the air-con. Any down time would cuase even greater discomfort in the long run when the air-cons break down. Hence, could we suggest that students have a wind breaker with them especially for those who prefer a warmer temperature.

5) Areas for parking bicycles
On this issue, we did have bicycle racks installed previously near the CCA block. However owing to the low demand, the racks have become disused. Owing to the rust and the state of derelict condition, we have gotten them removed. The school is prepared to re-install them if the student coucil is able to help us justify the demand via a poll with the students. Hope I have answered the queries.

Regards,
Jonathan Ng

There will be a follow-up on these issues raised by the student population, particularly so regarding lecture recordings and areas for the parking of bicycles. Once again, thanks to everyone who raised these issues, and hopefully we can help make the college a more conducive place for you.
