A-Division Volleyball Finals at YCK Stadium
After long hours of arduous volleyball trainings, the victory attained by the Volleyball team was certainly a well-deserved achievement. The volleyball A-Division Finals held at Yio Chu Kang Stadium on Monday, 18th May 2009, was an intense match that created a nerve-wrecking atmosphere for both the players and the college who had gone down to render their support. The Girls’ team emerged as the new A Division champions, while the Boys’ team was placed as the 1st runner-up. Both the Volleyball Girls' and Boys' team have done the college proud. The Volleyball team has dominated the top 3 spots since 2005.
With fast-paced and action-packed game play on the court, the match was certainly a treat not to be missed and one that created a memorable experience for all.
The girls showed their tenacity in clawing their way back through VJC’s initial 8-point lead in the 3rd set and defeated Victoria Junior College 3-0 in 3 consecutive sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-21), clinching for themselves the new title of National A-Division champions.
Through sheer determination, the boys’ team put up a strong fight against Hwa Chong Institution, but eventually succumbed to HCI 1-3. (29-27, 12-25, 16-25, 20-25) Nevertheless, the team showed an impressive display of sportsmanship and team spirit, and each player exhibited the qualities of a true sportsman. Supporters from NYJC filled the stadium with resounding cheers and applause for the fantastic game played by the volleyball team.
After the grueling matches, the A-division Volleyball Finals ended on a high note with victorious wins from the NYJC Volleyball team. These stunning achievements attained and great sportsmanship displayed is certainly one that deserves recognition.
