WANTED: President of 32nd Student Council
With the recent commotion revolving around the 32nd Student Council Elections, NYConneXions interviewed Presidential Nominee, Rama and the council elect, Wan Xin. They shared with us their feelings about the upcoming Presidential Election.
Rama
Running for the Presidential Election of the 32nd Student Council, Rama from CT 0918 emits immense confidence and a seemingly unquestioned certainty of his capabilities to perform and deliver. He is Presidential Nominee P1.
NYCX: Councilors are meant to be role models and representatives of the student body. What qualities do you possess which you think are beneficial towards the shaping of the Student Council?
R: To be a student councilor, I think the most important quality you have to have is leadership. I think I have very strong leadership qualities and the ability to communicate well with others. The student council has to listen to the problems faced by students and address them. I also have the talent of bringing out the talent in others as well as the best in them. These are the qualities that will help mould the council and make me stand out from the other 3 candidates.
NYCX: Amongst the 4 candidates, who do you think is best suited for the role of President and why?
R: Me. I’ve got the experience of leading and most important of all, I know how to be being strict yet respected. This makes me a more approachable person.
NYCX: Great confidence! So, if you were chosen as the President of the Student Council, what are some of the changes that you would make?
R: Well, I cannot promise anything at the moment but a problem I would surely look into would be the overcrowding of the canteen during breaks. Besides that, I will try my best to gather more feedback from NYJC-ians, not only from the students but also the staff. Feedback would give the Council a better picture of what's happening in the school.
NYCX: So what actually made you choose Student Council as a CCA instead of all the other CCAs the collage had to offer? What is your driving force?
R: I actually considered other CCAs but in the end I went for SC. I feel that my forte is leadership and SC would surely give me more opportunities to express my leadership qualities.
NYCX: So what is the most valuable lesson you have learnt in this particular journey so far?
R: I think the most valuable lesson I learnt is that is crucial to work as a team, no such thing as a one man show or anything like that whatsoever.
NYCX: Which is the most memorable experience to you in this journey?
R: Surely the council camp has to be the most memorable experience. We did everything together during the camp. We suffered together, enjoyed together, got scolded together.
NYCX: Is there anyone in particular you would like to take this opportunity to thank?
R: I would like to thank NYJCians for voting for me as Councilor and I hope you guys do the same for the Presidential Election. I think I have to credit the 31st Student council as well. I really learnt a lot from them and these guys are just great. It’s like they can manage so much pressure.
NYCX: Thank you for consenting to our interview today! We wish you good luck for the coming election!
R: Thank you.

Wan Xin
Wan Xin from CT 0915 was successfully elected as a member of the 32nd Student Council. Brimming with energy, she presents a cheerful image. NYCX gets her views on the upcoming presidential elections.
NYCX: Congratulations on your successful election! How do you feel about officially becoming a member of the Student Council?
WX: I'm pretty nervous, because I know that this is just the beginning of the whole journey as a Student Councilor!
NYCX: Would you like to take this opportunity to thank anyone in particular?
WX: Yes definitely! Firstly, I would like to thank the 31st student Councilors, who taught us many valuable lessons during the council camp. Secondly, I would like to thank the students who had actually voted for us. Thirdly, all the teachers who had shown care and concern for us by offering extra help as they were worried that we may be unable to cope with our studies.
NYCX: Amongst the 4 nominees, who do you personally think has the highest chance of becoming the president and why?
WX: I believe that all 4 nominees do have the potential and their own strengths. Thus, they share an equal chance in becoming the President of the 32nd Student Council. However, I believe that in order to gain support, he or she will have to interact with many different people in the school, so as to hear their need and comments etc.
NYCX: Based on your own opinion, what qualities should the new President have?
WX: Good leadership skills, good character, preferably a listener who listens to the students' voices. Overall, they must have these 3 values learnt from the Council Camp: care and concern, confidence and communication.
NYCX: Do you have anything you would like to say to the 4 Presidential nominees?
WX: To the 4 nominees, all the best! No matter what is the outcome of this Presidential Election, we will still work as a team to soar to greater heights!
This interview is brought to you by Amanda and Eunice of NYCX.
