Coming Together to Celebrate the Nation's Birthday!

On Friday, our college celebrated the Nation’s 44th Birthday with the traditional parade ceremony and National Day Recollections. The entire college was dressed in their House T-Shirts in preparation for the Inter-class Sports Carnival, which were held after the formal processions of National Day. Students were visibly restless throughout the parade ceremony and the National Day Recollections. But of course, the students are not to be blamed since they have, after all, been a part of these traditional processions for many times. And with the prospect of a half-day celebration ahead with no lectures and tutorials, students were inclined to let their hair down and go wild on this day of celebration.

The Inter-class Sports Carnival was also a great opportunity for the classes to engage one another in competitive sports. The sports played were Captain’s Ball, Handball, Soccer and Frisbee. Upon dismissal from the parade square, students flocked off to their respective venues for the big game! Those not involved in the game itself supported their classmates, the more studious ones rushed off to squeeze in some studying for the upcoming examinations or work on their EOMs. Some mysteriously disappeared after being dismissed from the parade square and never did show up for the Sports Carnival. But eventually, the classes settled down and the games began!

Coming together in celebration of the Nation’s birthday, our college engaged in the thrill of sports and games. A long weekend is ahead of us with the National Day Parade just around the corner. Our nation should be immersed in a mood of rejoicing and celebration. But for many of us, realistically, this long weekend is more of an opportunity to catch up on our work and prepare for the upcoming examinations. For all of us, this long weekend is also a chance to hopefully get a well-deserved break and have a good rest.
This journalist hopes that the students of our college would take the long weekend to rejuvenate and reenergize. Hum a National Day song to yourself, realize how forgettable the recent National Day songs are, and enjoy this moment in your life. Reach out to the future by appreciating the beauty of the present and reach up to your dreams above by being the best you can be. This National Day, what are YOU going to do?
