Immersion Camp – Day Three
The last day of the NYJC's Immersion Programme started off with much advice and many wise words from Principal Mr.Kwek .

The dialogue session with the principal addressed matters such as scholarships and the increased independence in JC with "self-directed learning and self-initiated projects." He encouraged the participants to make their own decisions and said that "It is important to like what you do and do what you like." Mr.Kwek also stressed that it was important for the participants to obtain as much information as possible so they can make the right decisions. This was clearly displayed in the participants' initiative to take part in this programme.

After the dialogue was the reflection montage activity. The groups worked with mahjong paper, markers and magazines to create a montage indicative of what they learnt throughout the programme. They were required to express humour, creativity and imagination in their works which would be judged on originality and depth of reflection. The groups were close-knit and huddled together to work on their respective creations. The finished works were taped on the walls of the hall and introduced much flair and creativity to the atmosphere.

As the activity came to an end, photographs of the past days were screened, adding feeling to this reflection session.
What followed after was an impromptu JC tradition. The student councillors came together to give a crash course on this year's orientation mass dance. The participants relished this new experience and had a fun-filled workout that gave them a glimpse of what was to come in their JC orientations.

Finally, the time came for the prize presentation. Participants waited in eager anticipation as the winning groups were announced. The most intellectual group went to Marty 3, Alex 4 received the nod for the most enthusiastic group and Alex 2 came up with the best mini project. What gave the judges a hard time choosing was the group with the best team spirit! But finally, the judges settled on Melman 3 as the winner.

The final prize of the day...
In his parting speech to the participants, Mr Kwek mentioned three important things that he hoped they would bear in mind. He said it was important for them to “know what JC life is about” and that in a JC, “you must strike a balance between work and play”. After advising them to treasure the friendships they have forged during the three days, he then went on to say that he hoped they will always reflect upon what they’ve been through and draw lessons from their experience.
Rounding off his speech by encouraging them, Mr Kwek told the participants to “be positive about what you want to do and go for it”. He ended his speech by sincerely wishing them the best for their O level results. Yes, all the best and we hope to see your faces around in NY again!
