The Hunt 2008! NYJC’s Beauty and Hunk!
On the last day of July, NYJC crowned our newest Mr. and Miss Nanyang! The winners of The Hunt 2008 were crowned in a ceremony at the atrium during Common Lunch Break, which attracted a plethora of bystanders and supporters, all wishing to catch a glimpse of the proceedings and the chance to say, “I was there when NYJC crowned Mr. and Miss Nanyang in 2008”.

The Hunt 2008 was conducted in a format not unlike those in major beauty pageants. It was also hosted by two of NYJC’s very own 31st Student Council in a brilliant manner. Preliminary applicants were shortlisted and the finalists selected from the shortlisted applicants. Finalists then had to groom themselves, and answer questions in a Question and Answer segment, held just minutes prior to the actual voting, which stood for a whopping 60% of the overall score.

This reporter took the chance to interview many fellow NYJCians during the voting window, and reached the consensus that NYJCians were largely supportive of the contestants. Put aptly, “The contestants on the stage deserved to be there, and every one of them would have been a worthy winner”, as said by a fellow NYJCian who declined to be named.
It was also apparent, that NYJCians in attendance were aware of the importance of every vote given the heavy weightage, and was not shy of showering their preferred individuals with their votes.

After a few tension-filled seconds in which the votes were tallied and added together with the scores of the teacher-judges, the winners were crowned! The supporters of M1, Joshua from 0829, and F3, Priscilla from 0825 went wild, as they were officially crowned Mr. and Miss Nanyang!

When interviewed, the winners were unanimous in conveying their thanks to their friends and classmates who had nominated and supported them all the way through the entirety of the competition. As Joshua put it, “I am elated that I won, but I recognise that this would not have happened if not for the people who supported me.”
Amidst all the fun and joy that comes with being crowned Mr. and Miss Nanyang, this reporter definitely feels for the finalists who came so close, and would like to echo the encouragement of the majority of those interviewed, in that there’s no shame in missing out on the big prize and that without a doubt, all the finalists were all very courageous and spontaneous, given the short amount of time in which they had to respond to the questions thrown to them.
The Hunt 2008 was ultimately, superbly entertaining. On behalf of all involved, this reporter would like to thank every NYJCian in helping to make this event a very successful one.
