NY spirit at film fest impresses Mr Kwek and Dickson

In this final article of the film festival series, Dickson Sim and Mr Kwek respond to the event.

Dickson Sim, the main man behind the NY Film Festival 2007, was pleasantly surprised by the high turnout exceeding 600, an improvement from the almost 500 in 2006. The film festival was his brainchild, after all, and much effort went into making it a reality. He credits the success of this year's Film Fest to his dedicated club members who spent many sleepless nights planning and organising this major event.

Months at the helm of his CCA, taught him much. Motivational skills, for example, which he values as one key to ensuring that the CCA keeps on task despite the tiring days and tight filming schedules.

He is very impressed with the current batch of JC1 members in I.nNovation. They include many people who are very talented and creative as effectively demonstrated in the pure JC1 production "Recurrence". Dickson sees them as a huge asset to the CCA with still as yet untapped potential. He is looking forward to see what his juniors can do at next year's film fest.

In his immediate future, he plans to pursue film-making as a personal interest rather than as a full-time career. And because of his dedication towards I.nNo, he will continue volunteering his services to the CCA even after he graduates.

NY Principal, Mr Kwek, observed that the plots of both films screened at the film fest were created simply so as to reach out effectively to young audiences. And he very much impressed with the way audience responded to the two films. In his opinion, the audience was well engaged by the two films, showing a strong appreciation shown by NYJCians for NYJCians.

What he like best about this film festival was not the films themselves but the Nanyang spirit showcased by the level of teamwork among the various CCAs involved. Most of these CCAs such as the Photographic Society, Channel News Nanyang, AVA, Student Council and NYConneXions may not have been in the limelight, but all have collaborated in one way or another to plan, advertise and provide logistical support, etc. to make this event a success.

Mr Kwek took this opportunity to thank the School Management Committee for making the required locations available for filming despite their long hours and erratic schedules. With all-round support from the top and bottom, we can look forward not only to better films in future, but a more closely bonded NYJC.
