Don’t waste the waste: An environmentally friendly NYJC.
This week, NYJC took up the challenge to be more environmentally responsible in the world we live in. Mother Earth now faces an urgent issue specifically that of the rapid depletion of natural resources which is due to increasingly higher consumption rates by the growing human population. Hence, it has become imperative to make sure that precious natural resources are conserved and made available for the subsequent generations to come.
For the JC1 classes, students were given an opportunity to create useful items with recyclable materials in the ‘Don’t waste the waste’ event. The project was a good platform for students to make good use of their creativity to generate unique ideas. Many were delighted and enthusiastic upon hearing that they were going to be able to participate in this purposeful project. Jingjia, the Green Representative of 0937 felt that the project was a very meaningful one; she exclaimed enthusiastically, "Everybody in college is so busy with work and school that we are forgetting the environment already! It’s like a wakeup call for us!"
The project also allowed the J1s to brainstorm and to come up with many possible combinations. Students from various classes came up with interesting and innovative ways to support recycling which also incorporated originality and practicality. For instance, Class 0937 came up with an idea to design book covers from scraps of used papers and cardboard. Other designs included accessories such as ear studs and necklaces made from materials like aluminum and colored paper as well as other seemingly useless items.
"If we kill one person on earth, we'll be able to save 2 plastic bags a day!" - A Statement made by the Jingjia, the Green Representative of class 0937.
