Breads of the World Competition

In conjunction with International Friendship Day, the JC2 Health Representatives put their heads together to organise a Breads of the World Competition that was held on 14 April 2008. This competition called for different CTs to provide write-ups of healthy living, and the successful write-ups entered the finals, upon which they were required to make a healthy sandwich, hence the name of the competition.

An extreme close-up of the offering from 0818, which included low fat chocolate syrup, skimmed milk and even tofu!

The criteria that the teams were judged on included Presentation, Health, Creativity/Originality, Knowledge and Adherence to the $10 budget. The finalists included: 0702, 0729, 0733, 0804, 0818 and 0824, with each class sending 3 or a maximum of 4 representatives on the day of the finals itself.

Creativity of the teams was not in question, with ingredients ranging from low-fat chocolate syrup to lemons and tomatoes. Without a doubt, the teacher judges who were roped in to help determine the overall winner had a hard time in deciding which team’s effort was the best. I, myself, could not help but notice the expressions of the judges as they tasted the sandwiches on offer, with some offering on-the-spot critiques to the teams.

When interviewed, Quang of 0818 had this to say, “My hobby is cooking and making sandwiches, so this competition really caters and suits me very much.”

At the end of the day, it was ultimately 0733 that came up trumps and finished the competition as winners.
