NYJC’s TEAM JAAM wins Eco-friendly House Modelling Competition
If you were to take a look into the school library recently, you would find the model of an eco-friendly house near the computers. This set-up was done by TEAM JAAM which is made up of four NYJC students that participated in this eco-friendly house contest sponsored by car company, BMW. TEAM JAAM consisted of Chu Jia Yi, Anna Yeo, Aurina Chew and Goh Min Ling. These four girls have been hard at work ever since March, working together to create the best eco-friendly house model they could think of. In the end, they were rewarded with a S$1500 prize donation to the school as well as vouchers worth $100 each. It was apparent that they have done our school proud.

The contest consisted of two rounds, the preliminary and the finals. According to a member of TEAM JAAM, Anna Yeo, she had commented that the preliminary round was the most important. This was due to the fact that it was the selection round where the finals are selected. It is also where the team had to send in a detailed floor plan to be approved by the judges, before they can enter the finals.
The finals took place on 4th August and TEAM JAAM disembarked for the Science Centre where the finals took place. It was there that they had presented their full eco-friendly house model (made up of recycled materials) and their detailed report to the judges. They were up against three other finalists from secondary schools and junior colleges but still emerged victorious in the end. For a more detailed explanation of the make-up of the eco-friendly house, the report can be found next to the set-up in the library.
This contest was no doubt, to encourage the usage of eco-friendly technology as BMW is in the midst of investing cars that are run by hydrogen-fuel. The purpose of this competition is also to promote eco-awareness, something that we all should have. I believe that it is high time each of us chip in this meaningful movement.
To end this, TEAM JAAM would like to thank Mr Soh and Mrs Judy Tan for their guidance and keen contribution. It was what that motivated TEAM JAAM to clinch the top prize.
