Deathnote 2 Review
Being a sequel to the popular movie Deathnote, Deathnote 2 : The Last Name had a lot of expectations to meet. As the title states, this would put an end to the popular Deathnote movie series, inspired by the Japanese manga Deathnote. The captivating and rather out-of-the-ordinary storyline of the movie has captured the attention of many and those who watched the show were in for an enjoyable time.
The Movie revolves around two main characters Light and L. Light is trying to get rid of all the criminals in the world by using the Deathnote that was 'gifted' upon him by a Shinigami, or god of death. L is the one who is out to stop Light (affectionately called Kira). The battle of minds between the two university students is one to behold as the plot thickens in this movie with the introduction of a second Shinigami and two other Kiras. In this battle of wits, the stakes are higher as the danger of losing is present every moment of the time, especially since L now watches Light as he joins the investigation team.
Compared with the first movie, Deathnote 2, seems to be less of a action packed film; instead more priority is given to the intense battle between Kira and L. People might feel a little overwhelmed by all the information and with how fast the movie moves. It takes an alert mind to keep up with the storyline. Having said that, one cannot help but admire how well L and Light fight out an intellectual battle, with Light always keeping his identity a secret. The story ended with a sour note as the true nature of Shinigami is exposed.
All in all, the movie is worth watching but do keep yourself focused on the movie or risk being completely overwhelmed by the pace of the movie.
