Total Defence. It’s Personal. Play Your Part.
Taking personal responsibility for and getting involved in the defence of Singapore – that's the message for this year's Total Defence (TD) campaign. NYJC staff is taking Total Defence seriously, training its staff in the area of Civil Defence even as we celebrated Total Defence Day.

Over 90% of our staff went through 3 major modules of training. They acquired practical skills on CPR, First Aid and Fire Safety.

First Aid is the first treatment given to a casualty with the objective of preserving life and preventing his condition from deteriorating until proper medical treatment/attention is given. During the First Aid Module, our staff learnt to perform Primary and Secondary dressings to wounds.

The CPR Module was equally enlightening! Our staff learnt to position casualty, open airway, check for breathing and perform mouth-to-mouth ventilation.

In Fire Safety Module, NYJC Staff learnt of the Triangle of Combustion. There are 3 important ingredients for a fire to start, namely – Fuel, Oxygen and Heat. The staffs were informed of the different classification of fire and extinguishing means and at the end of this module, there was a fire extinguishing exercise too!

Though it was a long training session, but each staff understood the role a layman can played - a trained layman can literally make the difference between life and death. This also contributes to the preparedness of our nation. For our teaching staff, this first hand experience of Civil Defence will allow them to inculcate similar values in NYJC students.

NYJC Staff are taking total defence seriously. It’s personal and we want to play our part.
