Breads of the World and International Friendship Week
The “Breads of the World” competition was initiated by the JC2 Health Representatives. The Health Reps’ primary duty is to increase the level of awareness on healthy lifestyle issues of the student body, which includes eating habits. They used the commemoration of International Friendship Week 2008 to inform their peers of how the names of different types of bread consumed around the world are pronounced, and what they look like. In order to inject an element of fun into the educational process, the Health Reps also organized a sandwich-making competition.
All in all, the consumption of bread was thus used as a theme to great effect, in bringing across the message of mankind’s common heritage based on his use of, and reliance on a simple item which is often taken for granted. Students were subtly impressed with the message that, despite our many perceived and actual differences, man is at his most basic level, a creature of similar habits and needs. Bread is not just a life-giving necessity; it can also help to draw us all together. |
