THE
NANYANG MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY 2008
First set up
in 1990 and recognised as a college CCA, the Nanyang Mathematical
Society (NMS) aimed to promote the enjoyment of mathematics as well
as to provide a common platform for mathematical exchanges.
However, a turn
of events led to the closure of the NMS in the year 2000, 10 years
after its inception.
This year, the
mathematics department decided to revive the NMS with the same ardent
spirit with which it was first conceived. The main difference is
that the new NMS is now owned by the mathematics department instead
of being a college CCA in the past. In other words, it can be regarded
as the enrichment arm of the mathematics department.
Interested students
are invited to sign up as members of the NMS with Mr Leong Chong
Ming from the mathematics department. They will help to organise
enrichment activities like mathematical talks, competitions and
excursions on an ad hoc basis. This means that members will not
be required to attend regular meetings but will only be called upon
to help when the need arises.
We sincerely
look forward to your keen participation and with our concerted efforts,
bring the learning of mathematics to a much higher plane.
