Counselling Services

Students seeking a listening ear may turn to our School Counsellor, Mrs Joanna Gan, or one of our teacher counsellors.

Our Team of Counsellors

Miss Audrey Cheang

Teacher Counsellor,
Senior Teacher (PE)

Ms Audrey teaches PE & PW. She teaches soccer, tennis, netball and social dance. Personal interests include rehabilitative and alternative medicine, reading and solving puzzles.  She is comfortable with email counselling, but for her nothing beats speaking with students face-to-face.

Mr Clement Ducro

Teacher Counsellor,
Senior Teacher (GP)

Mr Ducro is a Senior Teacher (GP) in the English Department and has a 7 year old son. When he's not feeling depressed that Liverpool FC has not won the EPL for so many years, he will occasionally play Football Manager online to relax.

Mrs Joanna Gan

School Counsellor

She is passionate about helping students succeed in articulating and reaching their goals in life.  A former teacher in Nanyang Junior College, she now serves the students as a Full-Time School Counsellor.

Mrs Judy Tan

Teacher Counsellor, HOD (Student Well-Being)

Mrs Judy Tan teaches Chemistry, and she is always interested in finding out how Chemistry works in our daily lives. To relax, she likes to collect recipes to try out. She also loves reading, and reads anything from biographies and historical events to mystery stories.

Mrs Lucy Boo

Teacher Counsellor,
Senior Teacher (GP)

Mrs Boo has been a teacher counsellor for 7 years.  She completed her counselling training at NIE after undergoing the Advanced Postgraduate Diploma course in Guidance and Counselling.  She is currently teaching General Paper to JC 2 students and is also a co-supervising tutor for Project Work.

Mdm Shasila Rajaiya

Teacher Counsellor,
Teacher (GP)

Mdm Shasila has taught in the Primary, Secondary and now in a JC. She can safely say that I’m quite in-tuned to the various challenges young people face at different stages of their lives. She enjoys interacting with students. Just as much as students learn from her, she learns from them too. She likes to read and travel.

Mr Zhou Yefeng

Teacher Counsellor, Teacher (Chinese)

As much as he likes to claim that he knows everything, it is actually very difficult to achieve that. However, he considers himself to be a pretty versatile person, who dabbles in anything he finds interesting. He teaches H1 Chinese, though he is conversant in both English and Chinese. As for hobbies, he likes puzzles and mysteries (those that he can solve).  He also likes books, music and basketball.

Mrs Gan’s may be found in her office, located in the Media-Resource Library; or you may contact her at 6-380-5174.  She would be available from 9am to 3pm, but should you require an earlier or later appointment, it can be arranged.  You may choose to speak with our counsellors face-to-face or through e-mail.

Contrary to popular belief, counselling is not only for individuals with severe mental or emotional problems.  In fact, most of the students seeking counselling are able to cope in most areas of their life, except for the one or two difficult areas they might need help with, such as managing time better, dealing with test anxiety, working at struggles with communication or assertiveness, managing anger and relationships better.  Counselling offers you an opportunity to explore the issue and to find strategies to help you cope better so that you may achieve your goals in life.

The things that you tell your counsellor are subject to a strict code of confidentiality, and your counsellor will not reveal these to anyone without your permission. There are, however, a few limits to confidentiality, such as when the counsellor finds that your life is in danger.

There are times when you might need to seek help from a 24-hour hotline.  These are some hotline numbers you may call.
