The assessment of Project Work (PW) is based on project tasks set by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in consultation with the University of Cambridge (UCLES).
The PW cycle runs from April to February in the following year. It begins with the release of project tasks to candidates and ends with the submission of samples for external moderation.
Rationale
Project Work (PW) aims to provide students with the opportunity to explore the inter-relationships and inter-connectedness of subject-specific knowledge. It encourages them to break away from compartmentalized learning, and to develop the ability to integrate information and make meaningful links between different strands of knowledge.
Assessment Requirement
Candidates are required to carry out a project as a member of an assigned group, based on one of the two Project Tasks set every year.
The components of assessment are:
Paper 1: Written Report
At the end of the project, each group will produce a Written Report of 2500 to 3000 words.
Paper 2: Oral Presentation
After submitting their Written Report, each group will give an Oral Presentation in the presence of an audience. The Oral Presentation must be based on the project. Each member of the group is expected to speak for about 5 minutes. There will be a Question and Answer session following the presentation.
Paper 3: Group Project File
The following documents must be submitted, in a Group Project File:
Preliminary Ideas (PI)
Group Project Proposal (GPP)
Evaluation of relevant print/non-print material (EoM)
Insights and Reflections (I&R)
The PI, EoM and I&R should provide evidence for the following assessment criteria:
Generation of Ideas
Analysis and Evaluation of Ideas.
