Vision for Information & Communications (ICT) Dept
To effectively use IT to develop independent and engaged learning amongst students and to facilitate admin processes efficiently for our staff.
ICT Goals
To create a vibrant IT culture in the school through the following strategies:
1. Innovative use of IT Resources to enhance teaching and independent learning.
2. Innovative use of IT Resources to facilitate admin processes.
3. Promote Staff competency by conducting relevant workshops for professional and personal development.
4. Sharing of good IT practices during contact time and year end planning seminar.
5. Enlarge students’ knowledge base in IT by conducting relevant enrichment workshops and through partnership with industry partners.
Initiatives and available resources:
1. Free access to the World Wide Web during working hours (8.00 am to 6 pm) via individual login accounts from more than 150 desktops available.
2. Wireless access to the World Wide Web using the ICELL network via individual login accounts that can be registered free from wireless@SG. Details are provided in the college webpage at www.nanyangjc.org.
Access to the World Wide Web from the Media Resource Library via LAN point access from laptops and available desktops.
3. Students may borrow laptops for projects.
4. All classrooms are provided with access to the World Wide Web via available LAN points.
5. All classrooms and lecture theatres are fully equipped with PC’s, digital presenters, LCD projectors, internet access for effective teaching and learning.
6. Teachers can actively engage students via our E-Learning platform that has the following features:
a. Workbin for downloading and uploading of materials
b. SMS Broadcast
c. Discussion Forum
d. Digital Portfolio
e. Suggestion Forum
f. Private Message
7. Lecture recording facility to capture lectures for review by students.
8. Video editing facility available for students to edit video clips.
9. The department supports the Channel News Nanyang, the Micromouse and Robotics Club, AVA Club and Photographic Society as part of its initiative to promote students’ engagement in media, robotics and digital photography as enrichment activities.
10. Students in the above clubs and societies are given opportunites to help produce video clips and digital resources for the college. E.g. the virtual tour of the college.
11. Residential Trainer provides ICT training on Flash animation and others during common lunch breaks as enrichment programmes for students.
12. Lectures are supported by Flash animations to engage students in the understanding of difficult concepts.
Vision for Media Resource Libray
To be a hub where information is freely available (both print and non-print) for the engagement of minds and the pursuit of knowledge.
MRL Goals
To create a vibrant knowledge hub in the school through the following strategies:
1. Active renewal of print and non print resources through recommendations and bulk purchases. 2. Access to World Wide Web information. 3. Creating a conducive environment for learning. 4. Increasing competency of student librarians through ongoing training. |
Initiatives and available resources:
1) The library has a collection of more than 30,000 print and non-print resources (Fictional and non-fictional books, DVD, CD-ROMs etc).
2) More than 30 periodicals available.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center is a one-stop source for information on today's hottest social issues. Drawing on acclaimed series published by Greenhaven Press and other Thomson Gale imprints, OVRC features viewpoint articles, topic overviews, full-text magazines, academic journals, and newspaper articles, primary source documents, statistics, images and podcasts, and links to Websites. New to the database are Lexile reading levels for periodicals and an integrated national and state curriculum standards search with content correlated to the standards.
