Inspiring Excellence
Pugilistics Society

Together We Roar.

The Pugilistics Society was set up in 1978. It is a CCA which allows students to be immersed in Chinese tradition. This is manifested in the activities that students engage in such as Dragon Dance, Lion Dance and Wushu. Through these unique activities, students gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

Lion Dance and Dragon Dance are traditional Chinese dances which involve movement from Chinese martial arts. They are often performed during festive occasions like Chinese New Year. Lion Dancers perform the traditional custom of "cai ching" (採青) which is believed to bring good fortune and luck to the people. The Dragon Dance signifies a new beginning and helps to drive away evil spirits.

The CCA aims to strengthen the physical and mental capabilities of the CCA members. In addition, it instills in them values such as courage, resilience, respect, responsibility and teamwork. The members possess strong team spirit which is extremely vital in ensuring successful performances.

The Pugilistics Society trains on Wednesday and Friday at 2.30pm-6pm and 4.30pm-7pm respectively. These trainings help to foster good rapport between students, allowing them to hone their skills and build their physique in order to be able to showcase their talent during the various school performances for festive occasions as well as inter-school competitions.

Let the tradition last…
