In search for the right instrument to ignite your passion? Welcome to Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) Guzheng Ensemble!

The NYJC Guzheng Ensemble is made up of young musicians who are passionate about Guzheng. It was established in 2002 with the aim of promoting traditional Chinese music and grooming talented young musicians in their pursuit of this form of art.

Our ensemble has been consistently earning high accolades at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging. Our sterling performances clinched us the Gold award at both the 2011 and 2009 SYF Central Judging. We were also awarded the Silver award at the 2005 and 2007 SYF Central Judging. This is testament to the commitment and effort put in by the entire team, under the guidance of our talented and dedicated instructor, Mr Lam Zi Peng (蓝子澎老师) and the continued support from our teachers-in-charge.

Mr Lam graduated from the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Under his leadership, we hope to continue with our strong performance at the 2013 SYF Central Judging. 

Apart from SYF Central Judging, our ensemble also performs in concerts that have been well-received. For example, we collaborated with the NYJC Symphonic Band to put up Aureus Experientia XIII in 2008, as well as with the NYJC Chinese Orchestra in the 2010 concert, The Voyage of Spring. We will be staging another concert in April this year at the Singapore Concert Hall, together with the NYJC Chinese Orchestra.

In December 2011, the NYJC Guzheng Ensemble and Chinese Orchestra went on a Hong Kong & Macau Music Exchange Trip. All of us had an extremely valuable and enriching time performing and exchanging pointers with the students of Macau Pui Ching Middle School (澳门培正中学) in Macau. The exchange programme also allowed us to better understand and appreciate the local culture there.
