Inspiring Excellence
Student Council

Nanyang Junior College’s Student Council aims to ensure every NYJCian is well taken care of and their voice heard, acting primarily as a medium of communication between the college and NYJCians, in line with the college’s policies of student well-being, and holistic academic and character development. To facilitate this, the current system of the Student Council comprises four committees – Executive (Exco), Communications (CC), Welfare (Welco), and College Image and Bonding (CIB).

The seven-member Executive Committee forms the policy-making and leadership body of the council. Election into the Exco is the pinnacle of student leadership in NYJC.

The Communications Committee forms the “feedback bridge” between NYJCians and the college through Dialogue Sessions at various levels and maintains the Feedback Channel to give NYJCians a channel to voice their opinions towards the college. Besides, the committee also coordinates Get High Sessions which are specially designed to allow NYJCians to step up and take spontaneous leadership roles.

The Welfare Committee generally provides services aimed at improving life in NYJC for all NYJCians. Such services include the loan of the Connect and Contact Point, Night Study Programme and Lost and Found services. The Welfare Committee also initiates projects in accordance with the council’s and college’s policies and more importantly, NYJCians’ preferences.

The College Image and Bonding Committee plans and holds college-wide events and activities aimed at bonding the members of the college and fostering a closer college spirit. The committee is also at the forefront of certain college publicity campaigns to uphold the name of the college.

The Student Council also has a few ad hoc committees, which are organizing committees specially set up for a certain event. All councilors take up both main and ad hoc committee duties. Some ad hoc committees include JC1 Orientation, Council Investiture and Teachers’ Day.

The following is a list of services provided by the Student Council for the student body:

Rental of Connect & Contact Point (C2 Point)
Strategically located near the canteen, the Connect & Contact Point was created with the purpose of increasing communication amongst NYJCians. The Connect & Contact Point is available for loan to all student groups and student groups are encouraged to use it to promote their CCAs and other student-initiated events.

Feedback Channel (Online)
The Feedback Channel located within the NYXchange is an online platform for NYJCians to provide feedback to improve the college. Feedback collected from NYJCians will be forwarded to the relevant and respective college admin for further actions.

Get HIGH! Sessions
Get HIGH! Sessions allow student groups to organize events, coordinated by the Student Council. NYJCians may initiate an activity by sending in their proposal. NYJCians who know of external organisations or interest groups that may be of interest to fellow NYJCians are encouraged to send in the information
