Every year, the Student Well-Being Department invites representatives from the three main tertiary education institutions in Singapore - NUS, NTU and SMU, to provide our students with information about the faculties they have and the courses they offer. The pre-requisites for admission into the various courses are also discussed during the talks that are held on our campus. Entitled “Unibuzz”, these talks are meant to help NYJCians develop an increased awareness of the various courses offered so that they can make more informed career choices in the future.
On 17th February, Professor David Reisman and student representatives from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS,NTU) were invited to give a talk on the various undergraduate majors on offer in the School. During this session, students gained an awareness and better understanding of subjects like Sociology and Psychology. Prof Reisman’s clear and precise presentation illustrated what the study of each subject entailed.
The sharing conducted by a HSS student representative, Mr Tan Jian Lin, left the deepest impression on me. As an NYJC alumnus, he shared deeply insights about his life as a student pursuing Economics in NTU, especially the joys and hardships of campus life, rather intriguing. His sharing was deeply personal and engaging and it truly helped students to understand the social and academic aspects of University life much better.
Owing to the rapport that Prof Reisman and Mr Tan were able to establish with the students, the subsequent Q & A session proved to be a lively exchange. Students clarified any doubts that they may have on the possible subject combinations available as well as the opportunities university life offers.
