Story-Time at Yishun Library

It was a chance not to be passed over. Three enthusiastic teachers, Mdm Juliana Ang, Mrs Too – Ong Kah Lin and Ms Shasila Rajaiya, jumped at the opportunity to conduct a story- telling session for children during the June holidays.

They were assigned to Yishun Library on 19 June at 2pm. The session was for an hour. The task – to read a story and conduct post-reading activities for children between the ages of 4 to 9. The teachers were all geared up right from the start. Intensive preparations started 3 weeks ahead of the event. The book chosen was “Who Moved My Cheese?” The post-reading activities, worksheets and craftwork were carefully prepared and conducted by both Mrs Too and Mdm Ang. The task of reading the story was assigned to Ms Shasila.

The attentive listeners!

The session went better than expected. The little ones were enthusiastic participants. They were more than eager to ask or answer questions. They were not shy to share their thoughts and feelings about the story and even tried to predict the story whenever asked. The children were thrilled by the post-reading activities. Parents had a tough time getting their children to leave as they were committed to finishing their craft work.

Although it was a short hour, the three teachers found it a fulfilling experience as they enjoyed conducting the session. The three teachers acknowledged that it was tiring to look into the different age groups and their needs but, at the same time, admitted to enjoying themselves. They definitely are looking forward to more opportunities to work with children again!
