Life after the 'A's: pre-results jitters
The 'O' Level results were released last Friday, causing a stir among 'A' level graduates not because it brings back memories, but because it provokes heated speculation over when our day would come. Some say it is due soon; quoting 'reliable' sources while other speculators on the other side of the fence think it would be out only in March. Well, to each his own. I personally hold the latter view, if only based on an intuitive feeling.
Putting the nervousness that everyone concerned will experience aside, the reason I prefer the later date is because I have not actually made up my mind about my future path yet. Choices, it seems, are especially hard to make when you have a lot to choose from and they have a long lasting effect. What do I really want? I do not have a definite answer, and even when I think I have a conclusion, there are other circumstantial factors (e.g. the chances of winning the competition for a highly sought after course) that I cannot ignore.
As time ticks on, and as more people are enquiring about the date of the release, I find myself still in the search for answers. My colleague is asking (because he wants to know when I would be on leave), friends are speculating and as another of my colleagues puts it, even her "distant relatives are asking." I suppose the answers will appear in the end, but to the current JC2s, it might be good to start thinking about what you want now. Don’t leave regrets about how you could have worked harder. And to us, the current batch of 'A' Level graduates, all the best!
