Alumnus shares about working life after the ‘A’s

It’s been quite some time since I last wrote for NYConneXions. Since I graduated not too long ago, my life has been revolving around having fun for the first few weeks since the ‘A’s, and around work henceforth.

After being accustomed to the hectic schedule of JC for two years, it did seem out of place at first for us to have so much time on our hands. At last, we got to savour for real the ‘free time’ that is so rare in JC.

For many of us, this was the time when we could finally play our hearts out and pursue any of our myriad interests. On impulse, I wanted to sign up for an elementary Japanese course at a nearby community center. Alas, I was too late for registration and did not manage to take the course after all. But never mind. Slacking is excusable too.

Gatherings were a common occurrence during the first month or so of the break. But after that, most of us were either working or looking for a job.

For me, the job came after quite a long, anxiety-filled period. Ok, it was around two to three weeks, but long enough to make me doubt if I would ever get a job. In retrospect, the wait was actually a good thing. I got to rest sufficiently before plunging into working life.

And the job? I’m happy with my current Admin Assistant position, being lucky enough to have helpful colleagues to guide me through it. What delights me the most are the heaps of Milo and cereal that comes free from the pantry! That’s motivation!

I shall end off here by saying that for those who have not worked before, the experience is yours to discover. Meanwhile, enjoy every minute of your JC life…
