The One, Javin, was "overwhelmed by all the support!"

In an event that could not have been missed on Friday, 10th February, Javin They of 0613 was crowned The One 2007. The audience were not the only ones surprised. Even Javin's experience as a finalist in the top 20 male category for Project Superstar did not prepare him for the honour. Speaking humbly, he said, “I really did not expect this.”

He appeared to be truly in shock when NYconneXions approached him the night of his victory. The basketball player added that he was surprised by the support of his friends and family. In fact, 6 of his family members came down specially to support him.

Although there had to be only one winner, the other contestants did not walk away with nothing. For Kai Ling, whom the judges commended for her energy onstage, she performed solely to entertain her friends and declared everyone a winner for having made it this far.

Sure enough, the audience supported the contestants regardless of whether they lost or won, applauding each contestant enthusiastically as the comperes introduced them. This camaraderie prevailed even when the hosts read out the judges' anonymous comments, some of which were quite acidic.

As compere, Bing Liang, remarked backstage, one judge was trying hard to "sound like Simon Cowell." Some members of the audience likewise thought the comments were harsh. Indeed, the crowd jeered on behalf of the contestants when the comperes read some of the more negative comments aloud.

The One 2007 was an eye-opener to all. Councillor Wei Hao from 0629, who had seen some of the other performers during the auditions, commented, “It’s surprising to find that so many NYJCians have great talent (for singing).”
