Student group inspires campus art project
What do you get if you throw in about a thousand tiles and one whole bunch of enthusiastic students? Well, you get Project Inspiration, an initiative jointly organized by a very inspired 14-member group called Sheenana.
Project Inspiration aims to be a fun-filled experience for everyone while creating a spirit of community on campus at the same time.
This project began during Orientation 2 level camp. Sheenana was challenged by their instructor to organize and carry out any activity within a month. Determined to accomplish this challenge, Sheenana proposed this plan to the college.
With the help of the Principal and Mr Mao who were very supportive, they got their plan approved within 2 hours! Not bad, considering it took a month to put the proposal together.
Ang Guan Heng, a member of Sheenana, states that they did everything on their own. They got the tiles through a wholesaler, arranged the delivery and promoted their project through announcements by themselves.
For the last week, students have been putting their handcrafted designs on the tiles provided by Sheenana. Every design whether on individual tiles or on a collage -- from kiddy cartoons to an impressive explosion of fiery colours represents a personal touch from its creators.
Many students felt that Project Inspiration was a great opportunity for them to express themselves through their own designs and to make their mark on the college building as their legacy of sorts.
For students who are yet to create an art piece, the absolute last deadline to do so is 19 May. The unveiling of the large collage is tentatively scheduled for 19 May during morning assembly.
From Project Inspiration, Sheenana hopes to leave NYJC with its message of "Urgency, Initiative and Togetherness."
