NY Literature Presents "An Afternoon Of L'amore"

It was love, laughter, fun, and more amore on Thursday, 15th February when the literature department presented "An afternoon of l'amore" during the common lunch break, in conjunction with Valentine’s Day.

Translated directly, "L'amore" means "the love" in Italian. The literature teachers and some JC1 students presented a repertoire of love poems to get the mood going.

Love can come in many forms. You can't say it all even when you express it in a thousand different ways. The programme started with Benjamin Low (0737) with Asley Benson’s "Friends forever", followed by Lily Tan reciting "Footprints".

Miss Kwok’s quirky "You don’t love me anymore" set the audience in stitches, complete with some drama students dramatizing some of the lines. Other poems that were read included "Because you loved me", "When the gaze of eye meets" and "A red, red rose" by Robert Burns, read by Mrs. Teo.

To wrap up the programme, Miss Anne Victor awed the crowd with her very own poem, "Walk with me".

Though a rather simple activity, it was all the same a nerve-wrecking experience for the JC1 students. Nonetheless, they stepped up and did a marvelous job. It’s "all for the sake of art" as Miss Victor once mentioned. It was certainly a learning experience for everyone, not only in finding inspiration from the poems, but also a chance to conquer their fear of public speaking.
