Farewell Ms Peh!

NYConneXions catches up with Ms Peh of the GP department before she bids us farewell…

NYCX: How long have you served as a teacher?

Ms Peh:I’ve been teaching for 4 years, long enough for parents to stop commenting that I look young (during Parents’ Day) *sigh*

NYCX: What was your most memorable teaching experience?

Ms Peh: I guess my first lecture was pretty memorable. I don’t like public speaking and have a ‘microphone-phobia’. So my worst fear when I was first posted here was having to do lectures. I remembered trying to memorise my script, feeling light-headed, having sweaty palms… and even running off to the toilet several times before the lecture. But the colleagues who planned the lectures with me were very encouraging and helpful, so I managed to get through it without messing up!

NYCX: What made you decide to leave teaching? What are you going to do after this?

Ms Peh: I’m not leaving teaching entirely, at least not for now. I’m going to take up a course in teaching English as a foreign language to equip myself with skills in teaching English to those without any prior knowledge of the language. I’m hoping to have the opportunity to teach English in different countries, travel around and imbibe new cultures and maybe do some community or mission work in future. There are many exciting possibilities so I’m looking forward to exploring the various options and seeing the world.

NYCX: What will you miss most about NYJC?

Ms Peh: NY students are a pretty fun bunch. The camaraderie between teachers and students is something I appreciated here, and I really enjoyed the times when I joked and laughed with my students. The NY students I know are also humble and teachable, qualities that have made my teaching experience here an extremely pleasant one. I would also like to pay a tribute to my colleagues – they are really the best teachers and friends! Life in NY will not be so meaningful without them!
