Synergy warms up with fringe performance
30 March, 2006
Two groups dazzled the lunchtime crowd at the Synergy Fringe Performance, a mini concert held to promote Synergy 2006. Synergy 2006 is a concert featuring a series of performances by various CCAs to showcase the arts and culture in College.
Break dancers Vigugan Pachapattuni from 05s7A and Mervyn Hi from 05s6A displayed swift moves, challenging stunts and great teamwork. They felt that Synergy 2006 is an opportunity to get their break dancing club, named the Street Style Society, more recognition.
Vigugan, who is also involved in track & field, has trained in break dancing for a good 10 months. He finds juggling between his studies and his interests not a problem.
Mervyn, another enthusiastic break dancer, took up this exciting hobby 3 years ago. He eagerly looks forward to training and performing for Synergy.
For Justin Jap from 05A2 and Marcus Sim from 05S6, singing duets in public is a piece of cake! After all, they emerged victorious at the finals of 'The One' this year. With their smooth voices and slick stage presence, they spontaneously agreed to sing at the upcoming Synergy 2006. As a matter of fact, preparing for Synergy 2006 has been a form of relaxation for these two students who are naturally excited about performing at the grand event.
Delightfully versatile, Justin and Marcus are familiar with a wide range of musical genres, from English and Chinese Pop to Jazz. They are putting in a lot of effort to prepare for the big day.
"We want to give a good show," says Justin, "so the audience will get their money's worth."
So what can one expect from these young talents? Spend just $10 on a ticket to Synergy 2006 and find out what they and many other NYJCians can do!
