29th Student Council promises to be The Best

After 2 hectic weeks of campaigning, NYJC has voted and the 29th Student Council has been formed. At the head of the newly-formed council is Lester Chee, with Vice-President Angie Lim, General Secretary Hasyimah Harith and Assistant General Secretary Mervis Toh making up the executive committee.

The new house captains have also been elected. Leading Dragon House is Jo'an Tan; at the helm of Griffin House is Ang Qi Xiang, with Mak Xue Wei and Benjamin Tan captaining Pegasus House and Phoenix House respectively.

During the internal elections within the council to elect the executive committee members, the 29th Student Council had nominated and chosen Lester to lead them.

Formerly from Ang Mo Kio Secondary, Lester was so impressed by Orientation 2 that was organized by the 28th Student Council that he decided that council would be his choice for his CCA.

Commented Lester, "I was amazed that O2 was organized fully by the 28th SC and so I feel that council can fulfill my interest for organizing events."

He added, "Life as a councilor may be stressful but all the hard work is paid off by the smiles on people's faces during the event."

Indeed, it is common knowledge that the student council is one of the CCAs that requires a great amount of commitment. However, in spite of all their commitment to serve the school population, the student council is not always well received by the student body.

This is one thing that Lester, as the president of the 29th Student Council hopes to change.

His aim is to make the 29th Student Council belong to the student body and close the gap between the two. In order to achieve this, he believes that the image of the student council has to be changed.

According to Lester, he hopes to make the student council friendlier and more approachable.

When asked if there is anything he would like the student body to know, he replied with a huge grin, "Expect the best from the 29th SC!"

The 28th Student Council will step down officially on 23rd May, whereupon the 29th Student Council will assume their roles.
