Title race promises sizzling end to EPL season

Six more games till the end of the Premiership and the title race has never looked so exciting. Only 3 points separate the top two teams after Manchester United's shocking loss at Fratton Park. United's defeat blows the race for the title wide open. After Chelsea took the title convincingly for the past two seasons, this season is turning out to be a great refresher as many expect the title race to go to the wire.

After two years of losing to his more illustrious counterpart, Sir Alex Ferguson believes that he has built a team that is capable of bringing back the Premiership trophy to Old Trafford this season. Indeed, Ferguson has a wide array of talent at his disposal including Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville who are the players from the older generation and younger, more dynamic players like Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. Special mention has to be made for Ronaldo who has single-handedly steered his team to victory many-a-time this season. Being on such remarkable form, it is no wonder that many of Europe's leading clubs covet him.

Chelsea are finding themselves in an unfamiliar position, playing 2nd fiddle to Man Utd in league standings. Although they did have many close shaves, Chelsea still maintain the pressure on the league leaders hoping that Man Utd will drop points. Chelsea have so far racked up 8 consecutive victories in the Premiership and are still looking strong for a quadruple. With Chelsea keeping the heat on Man Utd, this is one of the most anticipated runs-up to the title ever.

With just 6 games to go however, Man Utd's title charge has been dealt a severe blow as they have lost several key players such as Neville and Vidic. With an injury crisis mounting in the defence, it remains to be seen if substitutes Wes Brown and John O' Shea can effectively step in for the injured players.

Both teams are still in 3 competitions - the FA cup, the Premiership and the Champions' League. Chelsea has progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions' League with a 2-1 win against Valencia, as has Man Utd with an emphatic 7-1 victory over Roma. If both teams get to the finals of the FA cup and the Champions' League, they would be playing against each other, setting the stage for a most enthralling series of matches.

Whether or not the teams are able to sustain their good form and be injury-free remains to be seen. Being injury-free will be crucial in the run-up to the final games of the season where Chelsea are due to take on Man Utd at Stamford Bridge on 9th May, in a tie that many consider would decide where the Premiership Trophy would go this season. Chelsea in this case would be more secure as they have a relatively large squad financed by Russian Roubles.

The ending of this season of the EPL is certainly full of excitement, and no matter which side claims the Premiership come May, both English giants would agree that it has been a fruitful season.
