Dark Knight

“Some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”

The follow-up to the action movie, “Batman Begins”, “The Dark Knight”, directed by Christopher Nolan stars a cast of talented actors, which include Oscar winners Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, as well as Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger.

Christian Bale plays the role of billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne who leads a double life as Batman. Aided by Lieutenant Jim Gordan (Gary Oldman) and the new District Attorney, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman goes on a mission to eradicate all crime in Gotham City.

With a haul of criminals arrested, the civilians’ fears of these criminals were put to rest. But only for a short while. With the appearance of the psychopathic Joker (Heath Ledger) with his penchant for destruction, Gotham City is once more thrown into chaos. Heath Ledger’s extraordinary acting in his role as the enigmatic Joker is able to fully capture the malevolent humour of the character.

The movie takes on an even more complicated twist when we see the change in Harvey Dent from someone portrayed as a hero at the beginning of the movie to a grief-stricken man who is bent only on exacting revenge on those whom he believed to have caused the death of his beloved, Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Batman eventually tracks him down and stops him from taking more lives.

With the help and support from his two trusted allies, CEO of Wayne Enterprises Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) and his loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine), Batman ultimately manages to subdue the Joker.

Many of the action scenes in “The Dark Knight” are filmed using IMAX technology. The end result is that the images are clearer and sharper and the colours brighter, making the movie seem extremely real to the audience watching. For avid fans of action thrillers, “The Dark Knight” is a must-watch as it will leave you gripping your seat right to the end.
